Vaibhav Rekhi is responsible for the overall capital strategy and leads all external fund raising including platform JVs, new funds, managed accounts and third party mandates in addition to investment allocation and monitoring across various pools of capital. Vaibhav has led the formation and execution of various fiduciary mandates, including a $500m platform with Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board to provide residential debt funding for RE, a $350m partnership with Ivanhoe Cambridge (the RE subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec) to provide pure and preferred equity funding for RE, a US$1bn alliance with APG for mezzanine investments into Infra and a US$1bn JV with Bain Capital Credit to pursue restructuring and turnaround investments within the Distress / NPA space. Vaibhav has also led the formation of and fund raising for a series of six domestic and offshore funds aggregating INR4000cr across both general (Domestic Fund IV and V and Offshore Fund III) and customized (Mumbai Redevelopment Fund, Indiareit Apartment Fund, IIFL Income Opportunities Fund) strategies.
He has 15 years of experience across real estate private equity and investment banking. Prior to joining Piramal, Vaibhav worked at Savills and DTZ in London where he set up and was responsible for a global capital advisory business focused on the indirect property fund space. Previously, Vaibhav has worked at HSBC and Citi within their Investment Banking Divisions across London, Hong Kong, New York and Milan where his broad-based experience ranged from M&A and corporate finance advisory mandates to equity and debt capital markets transactions. He also advised on the US$2.6 billion IPO of Link REIT (the first in Hong Kong and the largest REIT IPO in Asia).
He is an MBA from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and an undergraduate from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.
